Speeding Scorpio crashes into multiple vehicles, house in Panchkula; driver booked

A speeding Mahindra Scorpio caused extensive damage in Sector 15 of Panchkula after crashing into multiple vehicles and a residential property early Sunday morning. The incident, captured on CCTV, has led to the registration of an FIR against the driver, Manmeet Singh, by Sector 14 Police.

According to the complaint filed by Sector 15 resident Sandeep Goyal, the out-of-control Scorpio first hit a moving Maruti Ertiga before smashing through an iron gate, boundary grill and a security cabin. It then rammed into a parked Toyota Hyryder outside a house, pushing the vehicle through the boundary wall and into the property. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, although all four occupants of the Scorpio, residents of Kapurthala in Punjab, escaped unhurt.

CCTV footage of the incident reportedly shows the speeding SUV ploughing through the structures before colliding with the parked car.

The complainant alleged that the four occupants appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and claimed they had told him they were returning from a nightclub. He further alleged that despite informing the emergency helpline at around 5.18 am and requesting medical, dope and forensic examination of the vehicle, immediate action was not taken. According to the complaint, the accused were taken for medical examination only after a second call to the police.

Goyal also alleged that the occupants removed and discarded certain items from the vehicle after the crash, raising suspicion that the objects could be linked to the incident. He claimed the delay in conducting the medical examination, nearly 12 hours after the accident, could have affected the test results.

The accused, however, told police they had come to the region with an NRI friend for shopping. They claimed the accident occurred due to the Ertiga driver’s actions and alleged that the Scorpio’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) was switched off, resulting in loss of control.

Investigating officer ASI Ravinder Singh said an FIR has been registered against Manmeet Singh, a resident of Begowal in Kapurthala, under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving and causing property damage exceeding ₹1 lakh. Police said the accused has been arrested and medically examined, with no evidence of intoxication found so far. A crime team has also inspected the vehicle, and further investigation is underway.
