Chandigarh, July 2

The Punjab BJP on Thursday constituted teams of senior party leaders to conduct a ground-level assessment of flood preparedness in vulnerable districts across the state ahead of the monsoon. The exercise is aimed at reviewing relief arrangements, preventive measures, and the administration’s readiness in areas severely affected by last year’s floods.
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon said party leaders will visit districts that witnessed extensive flooding last year to assess on-the-ground preparedness. During the visits, district BJP presidents will accompany the leaders and take them to the worst-affected locations for a detailed review.
According to a party statement, the visiting leaders will interact with affected families and local residents to gather first-hand information about flood-related challenges, relief measures and rehabilitation efforts. Based on their findings, they will submit detailed reports to the party leadership highlighting local concerns and any shortcomings in preparedness. The BJP said it remains committed to standing with the people during times of crisis and will continue to raise issues related to public safety, disaster management and timely relief for families affected by natural calamities.
The party has assigned Ashwani Sharma to Gurdaspur, Fatehjang Singh Bajwa to Amritsar, Shwait Malik to Pathankot, Surjit Jyani to Ferozepur, Sunil Jakhar to Fazilka, Sushil Rinku to Abohar, Avinash Rai Khanna to Jalandhar, Jangi Lal Mahajan to Hoshiarpur, Vijay Sampla to Rupnagar and Iqbal Singh Lalpura to SAS Nagar Mohali.
Punjab witnessed devastating floods last year that claimed more than 50 lives and caused widespread crop damage. Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, and Tarn Taran were among the worst-affected districts. The party’s latest initiative comes as preparations intensify to strengthen flood response and minimize the impact of the upcoming monsoon season.
