Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will cancel about 114 flights daily from June 15 to September 15 as part of a planned upgrade of runway RW 10/28. The suspension is required to carry out major maintenance work, including an upgrade to the Instrument Landing System (ILS), which will make the runway compliant with CAT III standards, according to media reports. This will allow safer flight operations during low visibility, especially in the fog-prone winter season.
The airport, which handles around 1,450 flight movements each day, is the busiest in the country. During the three-month upgrade period, a total of 200 flights will be affected 114 flights will be cancelled and 86 will be shifted from peak to non-peak hours. While the runway is expected to reopen on September 15, the full ILS upgrade will be completed by November 27. Terminal T2 also remains closed for ongoing maintenance work.
