Kangra, May 2
In a major crackdown, police recovered 130.48 grams of heroin from a 13-year-old boy travelling alone in a bus in the Gaggal area of Kangra district. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
According to officials, the incident occurred on Thursday night, around 8:30 pm, when a team from the CIA Kangra unit was conducting vehicle checks near the Banoi bridge on the national highway. During the checking, an HRTC bus travelling from Amritsar to Baijnath was stopped for inspection.
During the search, police found a minor boy sitting alone on the bus. Upon questioning, he identified himself as a 13-year-old resident of Palampur in Kangra district. When officers checked his bag, they recovered 130.48 grams of heroin.
During preliminary questioning, the boy told police that the substance had been handed over to him in Amritsar by his brother-in-law, identified as Aman Kumar. He said he was instructed to travel to Palampur, where the consignment would be collected from him.
Police have seized the contraband and registered a case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at Gaggal police station. The minor has been sent to an observation home in Una for 14 days as per the directions of the Juvenile Justice Board.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kangra, Veer Bahadur Singh, said the investigation is ongoing and highlighted that drug traffickers are increasingly using new methods to evade detection.
“Police are keeping a close watch on drug trafficking activities. Despite new tactics being adopted, we are intensifying efforts to eliminate the drug menace from its roots,” he said.
The case has raised concerns over the involvement of minors in drug trafficking, with authorities focusing on tracing the supply network and tightening surveillance to curb such activities.
