Manali, May 2
The political atmosphere in Manali has intensified as both the BJP and Congress have fielded candidates for all seven wards of the Municipal Council, with nominations filed on the final day amid the presence of senior party leaders.
The tourist town is witnessing heightened political activity, with candidates from both major parties entering the electoral fray for the upcoming civic polls. On the last day of nomination filing, all candidates submitted their papers, marking the formal start of the contest.
Senior BJP leader and former minister Govind Singh Thakur was present during the nomination process and expressed confidence in his party’s prospects. Speaking to reporters, he said that BJP-backed candidates have filed nominations in all seven wards and are committed to serving the public.
“Our candidates will work for the people, listen to their concerns, and ensure development at the grassroots level,” he said. He also criticised the Congress-led state government, alleging that people are dissatisfied over issues such as electricity and water charges.
On the other hand, Manali Block Congress president Veer Singh said the party has fielded candidates across all wards after careful selection. He said a committee was formed to identify strong contenders, and those with better chances of winning were given tickets.
Both parties are now gearing up for campaigning as they seek to secure control of the Municipal Council.
With both the BJP and the Congress contesting all seven wards, the Manali Municipal Council elections are expected to be a closely fought contest, with campaigning likely to intensify in the coming days.
