The Congress will hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1 against alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with Mahila Congress national president Alka Lamba claiming that 10 lakh people from across the country are expected to attend.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Lamba demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a halt to the SIR process and a return to ballot paper voting.

She alleged that the electoral rights of crores of voters were at risk and said the party would continue its campaign under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The Congress would seek a meeting with the President to submit documents supporting its concerns, she said, adding that the party had also approached the Supreme Court.

Lamba accused the BJP of attempting to undermine the Congress’s campaign and said the party would not back down from its fight against alleged electoral irregularities. She also demanded action against the Chief Election Commissioner and cancellation of his decisions.

Lamba targets BJP over Kharge remarks

Responding to the BJP’s criticism of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lamba accused the BJP of applying double standards on women’s dignity and public conduct.

She referred to a reported purification ritual following Kharge’s rally in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, alleging that a havan was performed and Gangajal sprinkled at the venue. She said the incident raised questions about social equality and respect.

Lamba also accused the Prime Minister of playing the victim card and using emotional issues involving his family for political gain. She said political leaders should focus on public issues instead of personal allegations and counter-allegations.
