Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has offered to resign from his post after being informed by the party high command that it was looking for new leadership to head the state unit, party sources said on Wednesday.
Warring’s decision comes amid weeks of internal differences within the Punjab Congress, with the party considering a change in leadership ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Former Punjab minister and MP Vijay Inder Singla has emerged as the frontrunner for the post, the sources said.
The proposed leadership change is expected to be aimed at strengthening the party organisation and addressing factional differences within the state unit as the Congress prepares for the 2027 polls.
