Shiromani Akali Dal BC wing district president and in-charge of three districts Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar Majrian has resigned from all party posts and primary membership, alleging neglect of grassroots workers and inadequate representation of the Backward Classes (BC) community in organisational decisions.

Speaking to reporters at the Chandigarh Press Club on Monday, Majrian said he had sent his resignation to party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and sought its immediate acceptance.

He expressed dissatisfaction over appointments in the Kharar Assembly constituency, claiming that the BC community, which he said accounted for around 80 per cent of the constituency’s population, had not received adequate representation in the appointment of the constituency in-charge.

Majrian said he had raised the issue with Badal but had not received the response he expected. He claimed similar concerns existed in other parts of Punjab.

Questioning the role of Badal’s inner circle, Majrian alleged that the concerns and suggestions of grassroots workers were not being effectively conveyed to the party leadership.

He said committed workers deserved due consideration in organisational decisions, adding that his loyalty to the party and the welfare of the BC community mattered more to him than holding party posts.
