16-year-old drowns in Ghaggar at Pinjore

A 16-year-old from Kharar drowned while bathing near a waterfall in the Ghaggar River, despite warning signs in the accident-prone area.

A 16-year-old boy drowned in the Ghaggar at Burj Kotian village here on Thursday.
An ERV-526 team and Amaravati police post in-charge Pritam Singh reached the spot after receiving information about the incident.
According to the police, five to six youths from Mohali and Kharar in Punjab had visited the area near the river. While bathing at a waterfall, the victim, identified as Aniket, a resident of Kharar, reportedly drowned.
The police recovered the body and shifted it to the mortuary of a hospital in Kalka. Further investigation and necessary legal action are underway.
Notably, the area has witnessed several such incidents in the past, despite warning boards installed by the administration. The authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution near the river and waterfall.
