Third chargesheet filed in Panchkula court takes accused count to 37 in ‘fund diversion’ case
Panchkula, September 2
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet against 19 accused in the alleged diversion of Rs 504 crore belonging to various Haryana Government departments and institutions. The third chargesheet in the case was filed before the Special CBI Court in Panchkula.
It names six Haryana-cadre IAS officers, three IDFC First Bank officials, one AU Small Finance Bank official and nine other state government officials, taking the total accused in the case to 37.
According to the CBI, the case relates to the alleged diversion of government funds maintained with IDFC First Bank and AU Small Finance Bank. The investigation has revealed alleged offences, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, use of forged documents, destruction of evidence, manipulation of accounts, criminal breach of trust and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The agency alleged that government and bank officials acted in collusion to systematically transfer public funds to unrelated third-party accounts. The money was subsequently layered through multiple bank accounts and converted into cash, the CBI added.
Notably, the alleged irregularities affected the Panchayat Department, Panchkula and Kalka Municipal Corporations, Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojana Parishad, Haryana Labour Welfare Board, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Haryana State Pollution Control Board and Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited
So far, the CBI has conducted searches at 54 locations, seized incriminating material, including gold worth around Rs 20 crore, and arrested 26 accused.
The case was initially investigated by the Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau before the CBI took over the probe at the request of the state government.
The agency said investigations into the case and two other Chandigarh-related cases would continue to trace the complete trail of government funds and identify the role of other suspects and accused.
