Motorboat Capsizes Amid Strong Currents During Flood-Rescue Drill; Army, Police and SDRF Launch Search Operation for Missing Personnel

Yamunanagar, September 2

A major accident occurred in the Yamuna River during an Army exercise in the Hathnikund Barrage area along the Haryana-Himachal Pradesh border. The incident took place while soldiers of the 1 Para Special Forces were conducting flood-rescue drills.

According to preliminary information, an Army motorboat entered the danger zone of the river and capsized amid strong currents, leaving several soldiers in the water.  two soldiers are feared missing, while some personnel reportedly managed to swim to safety.

Soon after the incident, teams from the Army, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Police, and the SDRF reached the spot and launched a search-and-rescue operation. Three soldiers are reportedly believed to have swum nearly 600 meters to reach safety.

Rescue teams later recovered the submerged Army motorboat from the river. However, the search for the missing  soldiers continues amid the strong current.

The investigating officer at Pratap Nagar Police Station said preliminary information indicated that the soldiers were carrying out an exercise when the boat met with an accident. The officer confirmed that one to two personnel were feared missing and that police and SDRF teams were conducting a search operation.

The exact cause of the accident and the total number of soldiers affected have not yet been officially confirmed. Police officials have declined to provide detailed information, citing national security concerns.
