Panchkula, May 28
The Panchkula Police have arrested an accused involved in a major theft at a temple in Sector 12-A, officials said. The CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing the accused entering the temple premises during the night and allegedly stealing jewellery worth several lakhs before fleeing the spot.
Following the theft, police launched an investigation and later arrested the accused. During the operation, police recovered a gold chain, a gold mangalsutra, gold earrings, a nose ring, gold bangles, and silver crowns from his possession. The recovered items are estimated to be worth between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
According to investigators, the accused had earlier attempted to commit the theft but failed after a security guard arrived at the spot. Police said he later returned and successfully carried out the burglary.
Officials further revealed that a previous theft case had already been registered against the accused. Police are currently questioning him, and authorities indicated that more disclosures related to the case are expected soon.
