Demand end to contract system, regularisation of employees

Panchkula, September 3

Sanitation workers staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation (MC) office in Sector 14, Panchkula, on Thursday, demanding an end to the contract system and regularisation of employees.

Similar protests were held by sanitation workers across Haryana.

As part of the protest, workers blocked the entrance to the MC office and prevented employees and officials from entering the premises for nearly two hours. The entrance was later opened, allowing normal movement to resume.

While some local demands have reportedly been accepted, several state-level demands remain pending.

Speaking about the protest, Joginder Singh, district president of the Panchkula Safai Karamchari Union, said several demands of sanitation workers were still unfulfilled, particularly the abolition of the contract system and regularisation of workers.

He said sanitation workers staged protests outside MC and Municipal Council offices across the state on Thursday, preventing officials and employees from entering the premises. The protest would continue and further action would be decided based on directions from the union’s state executive, Singh added.
