Original craftsman allegedly flees after taking payment; new artisan engaged to complete effigies; probe on
Panchkula: Preparations for Ravana Dahan at the Sector 5 Parade Ground in Panchkula have been disrupted after Shri Ramleela Yuva Manch alleged that the artisan hired to make the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad fled after taking payment, leaving the work incomplete.
According to the organisation’s complaint, the estimated cost of the three effigies was around Rs 20 lakh. The manch subsequently lodged a complaint at the Sector 5 police station, seeking action in the matter.
Station House Officer Sandeep Kumar confirmed that the police had received the complaint and were investigating the allegations. He said appropriate action would be taken soon.
Meanwhile, the manch has engaged another artisan to complete the effigies at the Parade Ground. With Vijayadashami approaching, the organisers are racing against time to finish the structures ahead of the annual celebrations, which culminate in the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy, symbolising the victory of good over evil.
The allegations against the original artisan are yet to be established and the outcome of the police investigation is awaited.
