Patna, April 14
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday resigned from his post, submitting his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at Lok Bhavan following a cabinet meeting, marking a significant political development in the state. Kumar, the longest serving chief minister of Bihar, met the governor and formally stepped down. He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, JD U leader Sanjay Jha and minister Vijay Choudhary.
“I have done a lot of work for the people of Bihar. Recently, I decided to leave the post of chief minister and after today’s cabinet meeting, I met the governor and submitted my resignation,” Kumar said. The 75 year old leader, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha last week, said a new government will now take charge. Kumar said the incoming government will handle administration going forward and assured his full cooperation and guidance, indicating a transition phase in Bihar’s political landscape.
