The Bharatiya Janata Party in Punjab has expressed confidence about its electoral prospects, with state president Sunil Jakhar saying the party could form a government in the state, drawing parallels with its recent performance in West Bengal.
Speaking on Monday, Jakhar said the party’s success in Bengal had energised its workers in Punjab, who were now preparing to take the party’s message to voters across the state. He praised the national leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said the result marked a significant political moment for the BJP.
Jakhar pointed to what he described as similarities between Punjab and West Bengal, citing socio economic challenges and concerns over law and order. He alleged that issues such as organised crime and the presence of radical elements had affected Punjab and said the BJP intended to address these concerns if given the opportunity.
Referring to recent visits by senior leaders, he said party workers were actively engaging with the public and building support at the grassroots level. He added that the BJP believed it could deliver development and improved governance under Modi’s leadership.
Meanwhile, celebrations were held by party workers in Chandigarh following the BJP’s electoral success in West Bengal. Supporters gathered at the BJP office, ‘Kamalam’, in Sector 33-A, Chandigarh, marking the occasion with music, sweets and dancing.
Slogans were raised during the celebrations, reflecting the enthusiasm among party members. Local leaders described the victory as a major milestone and said it would strengthen the party’s prospects in future elections.
They also pointed to the BJP’s performance in other states as an indication of growing public support, adding that the outcome had boosted morale among workers in Punjab.
