Education Minister meets students during surprise visit

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection of the Government College in Sector 1, Panchkula, interacting directly with students and listening to their concerns regarding academic programmes and basic facilities.

During his visit, Dhanda inspected the college premises and directed the administration to promptly address students’ problems. Students raised issues concerning various courses, resources and basic amenities available at the institution.

A key demand raised by the students was the introduction of a postgraduate course in physical education (MPEd) at the college. Dhanda assured the students that the government would consider their demand favorably and take the necessary steps to start the course.

He said the initiative would provide better local opportunities for young people seeking to build careers in sports and physical education.

Addressing the students, Dhanda said young people and students were the “real future” of the nation and its source of energy. He urged them to use their energy for positive activities, stay away from drugs and other social evils, and focus on developing their skills.

The minister said the Haryana government was committed to improving the standard of education in the state and to providing employment-oriented, quality education to young people. He added that infrastructure was being strengthened in government colleges across the state to ensure students did not face difficulties.

Dhanda also directed college teachers and administrative officials to remain sensitive to students’ concerns and maintain a better academic environment on campus. He stressed the need for regular interaction with students so that their issues could be resolved promptly.

He further directed the administration to ensure that basic facilities such as cleanliness, drinking water, and the library were properly maintained, without negligence.

The visit and Dhanda’s interaction with the students generated considerable enthusiasm among them.

College principal Dr Shailja Chhabra, senior faculty members, local administrative officials and a large number of students were present during the visit.
