Congress MP KC Venugopal on Monday said Punjab was facing a serious law and order crisis, with drug abuse emerging as one of the biggest issues in the state. He said people in Punjab wanted peace and were looking for a Congress government. He added that meetings would be held on Monday to strengthen the party’s organisation ahead of the next Assembly elections.
Venugopal said a major rally would be held in Punjab on November 4, addressed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The rally would mark the beginning of the party’s election campaign in the state, he added.
Sachin Pilot, the AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab, said the party would hold a ‘Hisaab Mango’ rally in Sangrur on November 4.
Pilot said he had visited Punjab to oversee preparations for the rally, adding that the state’s law and order situation had deteriorated and drug abuse remained a major concern.
The Congress leaders said the rally would focus on the issues facing Punjab and form part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its organisation ahead of the Assembly elections.
