The Punjab government officials on Saturday seized heavy machinery and apprehended one person during a late-night raid against alleged illegal mining in Bhallan village of Nangal tehsil, in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Officials said the Mining Department conducted the raid during the intervening night of October 23 and 24. A Poklain machine and a tipper allegedly used for illegal mining were seized during the operation. A case has been registered under Sections 4(1) and 21(1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
Punjab Mines and Geology Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal said the department was maintaining strict surveillance to prevent illegal mining and would take action against those found violating the law.
He said the government was committed to protecting the state’s natural resources and ensuring that mining activities complied with regulations.
Goyal added that the raid was aimed at stopping unauthorised mineral extraction and the illegal use of heavy machinery. Further legal proceedings will follow under the relevant provisions of the law.
