The Punjab Chemists Association (PCA) has directed its members across the state to stop selling Pregabalin and other habit-forming prescription medicines with immediate effect, until further instructions.
In a statement, the association directed all district unit presidents, secretaries and members to implement the decision and ensure that every chemist in their respective areas is informed.
The Ropar Druggists and Chemists Association has also instructed chemists to stop selling all habit-forming medicines, including Pregabalin, with immediate effect.
Regarding existing stocks, the PCA has advised chemists to take necessary steps in accordance with applicable laws and authorised return procedures.
District unit presidents and secretaries have been asked to circulate the notice immediately and ensure strict compliance. They have also been directed to report any difficulties, seek clarification or raise issues related to the implementation without delay.
The association said the decision had been taken in view of the prevailing situation and was intended to demonstrate the chemists’ commitment to responsible pharmacy practices, support efforts to combat drug abuse and protect the reputation of the chemist fraternity.
The PCA warned its members against negligence or a casual approach to implementing the instructions, stressing that all units must ensure compliance.
