A speeding car allegedly triggered a multi-vehicle collision near the Chandimandir traffic lights on the Zirakpur–Shimla National Highway on Monday, leaving a motorcyclist seriously injured and damaging two other vehicles. According to those involved, the car, traveling from the Shimla side, first rammed into a car before crossing onto the opposite carriageway and colliding with a tempo traveler. A motorcycle was also hit during the chain collision and became lodged underneath the tempo traveler.
Car driver Pandit Jagat Ram said he was traveling from Morni to Panchkula for work when the speeding vehicle struck his car. He said the impact was so severe that the airbags deployed and his newly purchased vehicle was extensively damaged. The injured motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was described as serious.
The driver of the tempo traveler said he was transporting staff from Panchkula to Nalagarh when his vehicle was hit. He said the tempo traveler also suffered extensive damage in the accident.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the driver of the speeding car appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and that several young women were traveling in the vehicle. However, there was no official confirmation of these claims at the time of filing this report.
Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
