Panchkula, May 30
Newly appointed Panchkula Mayor Shyam Lal Bansal formally assumed office at the Municipal Corporation headquarters in Sector 14 on Saturday, marking the beginning of a new administrative term focused on civic development and governance reforms.
The ceremony was attended by former Haryana Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta and newly elected municipal members. Addressing the media after taking charge, Bansal thanked Panchkula residents for their support and confidence in his leadership.
The Mayor announced plans to divide the city into zones to address local issues more effectively and said discussions would be held with officials to ensure timely resolution of public grievances. He pledged to address minor civic problems within a month and announced plans to establish four to five committees in each ward to strengthen public participation and governance.
Emphasizing environmental sustainability, Bansal said efforts would be made to keep Panchkula green and improve its ranking in the Swachh Survekshan cleanliness survey. He also assured residents that civic facilities, including cycle stands, would be restored and upgraded.
On the IDFC scam issue, Bansal stated that Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had promptly referred the matter to the CBI, adding that the investigation would be impartial and strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
