The first phase of the Panchayati Raj elections witnessed enthusiastic voter participation in Saukni Da Kot Panchayat near Dharamshala on Tuesday. Long queues were seen outside polling booths from early morning as residents arrived to cast their votes for various rural governance positions.

Women voters participated in significant numbers, reflecting growing awareness and involvement in grassroots democracy. The polling process began at 7 AM and continued peacefully throughout the day.

According to officials and local residents, five candidates are contesting for the post of Pradhan, while eight are contesting for the post of Up-Pradhan. Elections are also being held for Ward Panch, Panchayat Samiti Member, and Zila Parishad Member posts.

Voters expressed hope that the elected representatives would focus on accelerating development works, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring quick redressal of public grievances in the village.

With 11 wards under its jurisdiction, Saukni Da Kot is considered one of the largest panchayats in the region, making the election significant for local governance and rural development.
