Chandigarh, April 23

Haryana’s preventive healthcare programme, Nirogi Haryana, has screened over one crore beneficiaries and conducted more than 5.86 crore free laboratory tests, with officials highlighting its role in early disease detection and in reducing healthcare costs.

Sharing details after a review, Additional Chief Secretary Health Sumita Misra on Thursday said that over 1,00,07,430 beneficiaries from Antyodaya families have been covered under the scheme so far.

She said the initiative has facilitated more than 5.86 crore laboratory tests free of cost, easing out-of-pocket expenditure for families and strengthening access to timely diagnosis. The programme, launched in 2022, aims to provide eligible citizens with at least one comprehensive health check-up every two years.

Misra said serious diseases such as cancer, heart ailments, diabetes and anaemia have been identified at early stages under the scheme, with patients referred to higher medical institutions for timely treatment.

The official said the scheme will be expanded to include all citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of income, in line with the budget announcement by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. She added that the income eligibility limit will also be raised, increasing the beneficiary base from 1.59 crore to about 2.30 crore people.

Health services are being delivered through outreach camps, Anganwadis, schools and mobile medical units to ensure wider coverage across the state.

With expanded eligibility and continued focus on early diagnosis, the programme is expected to strengthen preventive healthcare and improve access to treatment for a larger section of the population in Haryana.
