Chitta, opium, charas and ganja recovered during raid; case under NDPS Act registered

Dharamshala, September 14

The police have busted a drug party at a hostel in Upper Dharamkot, arresting two men and recovering chitta, opium, charas and ganja, officials said on Monday. The action was part of a wider anti-drug drive in the district.

Kangra ASP Sanjeev Chauhan said the police raided the hostel in McLeodganj following a tip-off. A black purse was recovered from a dustbin near the bar and dance rooms. It contained 0.95 gram of chitta, 3.70 grams of opium, 1.33 grams of charas and 1.54 grams of ganja.

The accused have been identified as Amir Khan of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, and Radhesh Ranjan Pajoria of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The police said the two had taken the property on lease. An FIR was registered at the McLeodganj police station.

In a separate case, a CIA team recovered 1.813 kg of charas during checking near the Gankhetter railway crossing in Baijnath and arrested six persons.

A minor detained during the operation was handed over to his family after completion of legal formalities. The police also seized an Alto K10, a Honda scooter and a Pulsar motorcycle.

The police are investigating the source of the recovered charas and the alleged links of the accused.

Chauhan appealed to landlords and property owners to properly verify tenants before leasing out properties. He also advised them to include clauses allowing cancellation of leases if illegal activities were detected on the premises.

The ASP said the police and other government agencies were working together against drug-related activities and warned that strict action would continue against those involved in the illegal trade.
