Haryana Police track over 45K active criminals, verify 26K

57.57 per cent of identified criminals verified as police step up intelligence-led surveillance

The Haryana Police have prepared a database of 45,207 active criminals and verified 26,026 of them as part of an intelligence-led drive to strengthen surveillance and curb organised crime, officials said on Monday.

The verification was carried out under the Rohtak-Jhajjar-Sonipat-Faridabad (RJSF) initiative, aimed at strengthening intelligence-led surveillance of offenders, covers 57.57 per cent of the identified active criminals. The police are tracking their current status, activities, criminal records and suspected networks to enable data-based intervention.

Of those verified, 7,425 were found at their registered addresses, 1,612 were in jail and 375 were found to have died. Verification of the remaining 19,137 criminals is being carried out on priority.

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Singhal has directed officers to make policing more intelligence-based, technology-enabled and data-driven. He stressed the need to regularly update information on criminals and their activities and take immediate action against those found involved in suspicious or active criminal activity.

“Knowing the correct identity, current status and activities of every criminal is the first requirement for crime control,” DGP Singhal said, adding that the objective was to use available data to prevent crime rather than act only after an offence.

The police have also uploaded FRS data of 6,762 criminals to strengthen digital records and link field policing with technical surveillance and intelligence inputs.

Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Sanjay Kumar said the RJSF model was initially introduced in crime-sensitive districts, including Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonipat and Faridabad, and was later expanded across the state.

Rohtak, Jhajjar and Faridabad have completed verification of 100 per cent of their active criminals. Hisar has recorded 99.11 per cent verification, followed by Sonipat at 93.13 per cent and Sirsa at 81.97 per cent. Kaithal, Jind and Fatehabad have completed 68.43 per cent, 62.82 per cent and 57.49 per cent verification, respectively.

The police said the database would facilitate information sharing between districts and help identify criminal networks and track offenders operating across district boundaries.

The initiative aims to shift the police focus from post-crime investigation towards early identification of potential threats through regular verification, intelligence inputs and coordinated surveillance.
