The Bharatiya Janata Party’s core group in Haryana met in Panchkula on Tuesday to finalise its approach for the upcoming urban local body elections, which are set to take place on May 10 in Panchkula, Ambala, Sonipat and other municipal bodies. The meeting was led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, state president Mohan Lal Badoli and state in-charge Satish Poonia.

During the two-hour session at the party headquarters, leaders reviewed ongoing party programmes and discussed initiatives to promote awareness of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the recently enacted Women’s Reservation Act. The party aims to boost public participation, especially among women, through a series of awareness programmes about the new law.

Speaking after the meeting, Chief Minister Saini said, “Resolutions in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will be drafted by panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations.”On the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Saini also extended greetings and underscored the government’s commitment to social justice.

State president Badoli noted that a clear strategy has been established for the civic elections, with specific responsibilities assigned to ministers and party office-bearers. “A five-member committee will conduct consultations and prepare reports on April 15 and 16 in all areas where polls are to be held,” Badoli said.

State in charge Satish Poonia highlighted the importance of coordination between the party and the government to ensure effective outreach of policies and programmes. The main electoral contest is expected to be between the BJP and the Congress in these municipal elections.

The Haryana State Election Commission has announced elections to the Municipal Corporations of Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat, as well as to other urban local bodies, on May 10. The BJP’s preparations highlight its commitment to mobilise support and achieve a strong electoral performance.

In the coming weeks, the party will boost its outreach and focus on engaging women voters while strengthening its grassroots presence ahead of the elections.
