New Delhi, March 26
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday hold a video conference with chief ministers of all states, except those heading into elections, to review preparedness in light of the escalating West Asia conflict, sources said.
The meeting will be the first such interaction between the prime minister and state leaders since the conflict began on 28 February, following a US-Israel attack on Iran. Iran has since retaliated with strikes targeting Gulf neighbours and Israel, raising concerns over wider regional instability.
Sources said the discussion would focus on states’ contingency plans and readiness, with an emphasis on coordinated action under the “Team India” approach.
“The prime minister will interact with the CMs tomorrow evening through video conferencing on the West Asia conflict to review preparedness and plans of states. The meeting will focus on ensuring synergy of efforts in the spirit of Team India,” sources said.
Chief ministers of states currently under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) due to upcoming elections will not take part in the meeting.
A separate meeting will be convened by the Cabinet Secretariat with chief secretaries of poll-bound Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry, sources added.
