Palampur, July 4
Seven tourists stranded in Neugal Khad near Palampur amid rising monsoon water levels were rescued safely following a joint operation by Kangra Police and the Fire Services Department on Saturday. According to Kangra Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Veer Bahadur, we received information today that several tourists had become trapped in Neugal Khad under the jurisdiction of Palampur Police Station. Upon receiving the alert, the Fire Services Department immediately reached the spot and launched a rescue operation in coordination with the police.
The rescue team safely evacuated all seven tourists, comprising three men, two women and two children. Officials confirmed that all those rescued were unharmed.
Speaking after the operation, ASP Veer Bahadur warned that continuous rainfall during the monsoon season can cause water levels in mountain streams, rivulets, and rivers to rise suddenly, creating life-threatening situations.
He urged both tourists and residents to avoid unnecessary visits to rivers, streams, and other water bodies during the rainy season. He also advised people not to enter the water for bathing or recreational activities, as conditions can change rapidly without warning.
“Even a small act of negligence can prove fatal,” Veer Bahadur said while appealing to the public to strictly follow the safety advisories issued by the administration.
He further requested that any emergency or distress situation be reported immediately to the police or district administration so that timely rescue and assistance can be provided.
Authorities have reiterated their appeal for caution during the monsoon, stressing that public cooperation is essential to prevent avoidable accidents in hilly areas.
