The Punjab Police have arrested a notorious drug trafficker and seized 50 kilograms of heroin in a major operation targeting a Pakistan-backed smuggling network. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested the suspect, identified as Sandeep Singh, also known as Seepa, in Kapurthala district. Officers also impounded a vehicle allegedly used in the trafficking — a white Kia Seltos.

Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, said preliminary findings suggest the consignment was sent across the border by smugglers linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He described Sandeep Singh as a repeat offender with eight criminal cases against him, including charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The DGP added that the accused had recently been released from Kapurthala Jail.

Additional Director General of Police Nilabh Kishore said officers had been tracking the suspect since his release earlier this month. Intelligence indicated that he collected the heroin from a border village near Jalalabad. The suspect attempted to flee when challenged near Ferozepur, leading to a pursuit that ended in Rauke village, where he allegedly tried to ram police vehicles before being arrested.

Police said that the y further investigations are underway to identify the wider network and the intended recipients of the drugs. More arrests and seizures are expected. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar.
