Athletes must meet prescribed NR qualifying scores for national selection

The 35th All India G V Mavlankar Shooting Championship is underway in Mohali, Punjab, with 2,688 athletes from across India competing in 62 events from September 12 to 22, with qualifying performances leading to national-level selection.

The championship features competitions across several categories, including men and women, junior men and women, senior masters, super masters, sub-youth and service categories, besides events for deaf men and women.

The shooting programme includes 10-metre air rifle, 50-metre rifle prone and .22 open-sight standard rifle prone events. The competitions are being conducted as scheduled during the championship period.

Athletes participating in each event are required to achieve the prescribed minimum qualifying NR score. Those meeting the required score become eligible for selection at the national level, according to the championship details.

On September 16, the 50-metre rifle prone shooting event was being conducted, with approximately 50 to 60 athletes taking part. The event consists of a 60-shot series, in which participants are required to achieve the minimum qualifying NR score.

The 10-metre air rifle event was conducted from 9 am to 5 pm, with approximately 35 athletes participating. The competition consisted of a 40-shot series, with shooters required to attain the prescribed minimum qualifying NR score for national-level selection.

The championship has brought together shooters from different parts of the country across various age and competition categories. The ongoing events provide participants an opportunity to meet the prescribed qualifying standards for progression to the national level.

The championship will continue in Mohali until September 22, as athletes compete across the scheduled events and categories.
