Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday presented the Union Budget 2025, focusing on economic growth, agricultural reforms, and financial support for farmers. Sitharaman announced an expansion of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, raising the loan limit under the modified interest subvention scheme from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh for 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers. To boost urea production, the government will establish a new 12.7 lakh metric ton capacity plant in Namrup, Assam. Additionally, the Prime Minister Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will target 100 districts with low agricultural productivity, aiming to improve irrigation, storage, crop diversification, and access to credit. The program is expected to benefit 1.7 crore farmers.
Sitharaman reiterated India’s position as the fastest-growing major economy, emphasizing a decade of reforms and a commitment to “Sabka Vikas.” The budget session was marked by Opposition protests in Parliament.
