U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the White House in February for a meeting. Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to Joint Base Andrews from Florida, Trump said he had a “long talk” with Modi on Monday. “PM Modi is coming to the White House in February. We have a very good relationship with India,” Trump told reporters.
The comment follows a phone call between the two leaders earlier in the day, during which Modi congratulated Trump on his historic second term and reiterated their commitment to strengthening the India-U.S. partnership.
The White House, in an official statement, said that President Donald J. Trump had a constructive call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders discussed efforts to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation, addressing a range of regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe.
President Trump highlighted the importance of India increasing its procurement of American-made security equipment and advancing a fair bilateral trading relationship. The discussion also included plans for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House, reaffirming the strong friendship and strategic ties between the two nations.
Both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening the U.S.-India strategic partnership and advancing the Indo-Pacific Quad collaboration. India is set to host the Quad Leaders’ Summit for the first time later this year, marking a significant step in their shared vision for regional stability.
In a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Modi expressed optimism about the conversation, stating, “Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security.”
