Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute more than 6.5 million property cards under the SVAMITVA scheme to property owners in over 50,000 villages across 230 districts in 10 states and two union territories through video conferencing on January 18. The SVAMITVA scheme, launched by Modi, aims to boost rural India’s economic progress by providing property owners with “Record of Rights” for their houses in inhabited areas. The initiative uses advanced drone technology to conduct surveys, offering an innovative solution to streamline property documentation.
The scheme facilitates property monetization, enables access to institutional credit through bank loans, reduces property-related disputes, improves property tax assessment in rural areas, and supports comprehensive village-level planning. So far, drone surveys have been conducted in over 317,000 villages, covering 92% of the targeted areas. Nearly 22.5 million property cards have been prepared for over 153,000 villages. Full implementation of the scheme has been achieved in Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tripura, Goa, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. Drone surveys are also completed in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and several Union Territories.
