Re-investigation ordered after complainant disagreed with earlier report
Chandigarh, September 18
Zirakpur police arrested Suman Bansal during a re-investigation into a 2019 alleged property fraud case, with the accused subsequently being sent to District Jail, Patiala, on the orders of a court, the police said.
According to police sources, the case was registered on the complaint of Hemant Gupta. After the initial investigation, police prepared an Akhraj report and submitted it to the court after approval from senior officers.
The complainant expressed disagreement with the report on November 6, 2024, following which the Derabassi court ordered a re-investigation.
The re-investigation was assigned to Inspector Jeevan Singh on October 13, 2025. During the probe, police added further sections under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said Manu Bansal alias Suhmek Bansal and Subhash Bansal were arrested as per the court orders on January 5 and January 6, 2026, respectively. Both were later released on bail.
According to the police investigation, Subhash Bansal and his wife Suman Bansal had entered into an agreement on December 21, 2018, to sell Unit No 507, 515, 516, 517 and 528 at Golden Square in Zirakpur to Hemant Gupta and Gurdeep Singh Chawla.
Police said Suman Bansal had also signed the agreement as a seller. Under the agreement, Rs 40 lakh was received in the joint Kotak Mahindra Bank account of Subhash Bansal and Suman Bansal.
The complaint alleged that the registration of the units was not completed within the stipulated period and the money was also not returned.
During the re-investigation, Suman Bansal’s alleged role came to light and she was named as an accused in the case. Inspector Jeevan Singh said a daily diary report in the matter was also recorded on January 30, 2026.
Police arrested Suman Bansal on September 14, 2026. On September 15, she was sent to District Jail, Patiala, following a court order.
Police said the investigation is continuing and further action will be taken based on the facts and evidence that emerge during the probe.
