PM Modi to meet Putin at 3:30 pm today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled  to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian as world leaders gather in New Delhi for the BRICS Summit. Modi will meet Putin at Bharat Mandapam at 15:30 pm, followed by talks with Pezeshkian and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday and where he was welcomed by Russia’s Ambassador to India Denis Alipov and Deputy Chief of Mission Roman Babushkin. Minister of State for External Affairs K V Singh and Joint Secretary Mayank Singh were also at the airport.

Commenting on BRICS Summit, Modi said that he was looking forward to the summit, describing it as an opportunity for “positive and meaningful discussions” on global issues and world welfare. In a post on X, the Prime Minister Modi also quoted a Sanskrit verse calling for constructive association, dialogue and friendship.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi will meet the leaders of Ethiopia, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.He will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at 5:45 pm. The talks are being closely watched as India and China seek to improve relations after tensions along their disputed Himalayan border.

On Sunday, Modi is scheduled to meet the presidents of Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Egypt, South Africa and Burundi, along with senior officials from Nigeria and Uganda. The meetings form part of a busy diplomatic schedule around the BRICS summit, with official photo opportunities planned for the engagements.
