15 Kullu schools compete in Hindi essay, speech & quiz contests

Fifty students from Classes IX to XII from government, private schools take part in competitions during Hindi Fortnight

Kullu, September 11

As many as 50 students of Classes IX to XII from 15 government and private schools participated in essay, speech and quiz competitions organised by the Language and Culture Department as part of the Rajbhasha Hindi Fortnight at the Dev Sadan auditorium here on Thursday.

In the essay competition, Soumya Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Bhuntar, secured the first position, followed by Damini Thakur of Government Senior Secondary School, Bajaura and Anokhi of Bharat Bharti Kullu.

Mohit Thakur of Shaheed Bal Krishan Government Senior Secondary School, Kullu, won the speech competition. Himani Pant of PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Bhuntar, secured the second position, while Harshita Thakur of Government Senior Secondary School, Maohal, stood third.

In the quiz competition, based on Hindi grammar and literature, Ushmita Thakur of Government Senior Secondary School, Pij, secured the first position. Varsha Thakur of PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Kullu, and Yogita Thakur of Brahmarshi Shiksha Niketan, Raghunathpur, Kullu, secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Sekhar, who attended the event as the chief guest, highlighted the importance of Hindi and encouraged students to use the language along with their mother tongue. He presented certificates and mementos to the winners.

Senior litterateur Dr Dayanand Gautam, theatre artiste Meenakshi Thakur and Hindi lecturer Dotram Pahadia served as judges, while young poet Vaishali Bisht conducted the programme.

District Language Officer Promila Guleria thanked the chief guest, judges, teachers and participating students and highlighted the importance of promoting Hindi and its future prospects.
