Kangra BJP OBC Morcha demands community representation, threatens intensified protests over commission appointments.
Dharamshala, August 19
The BJP OBC Morcha in Kangra district has expressed strong resentment over the inclusion of members from outside the OBC community in the state OBC Commission, questioning the government’s decision and demanding representation for the community.
Speaking at a press conference in Dharamshala on Wednesday, district OBC Morcha general secretary Tilak Pataku and president Vijay Chaudhary criticized the state government and Chief Minister over the appointments.
They said Himachal Pradesh has around 18 lakh OBC residents, including nearly 10 lakh in Kangra district. Despite the sizeable population, they alleged that no eligible person from the OBC community was appointed to the commission, calling it an insult to the entire community.
Tilak Pataku said that on August 10, a delegation led by the state president met the Governor and demanded that the appointments be cancelled.
The leaders warned that if appropriate action is not taken soon, the OBC Morcha will take to the streets and launch an intensified protest. They also questioned the functioning of the minister associated with the OBC community.
BJP OBC Morcha treasurer Rajesh, Sumit Chaudhary, Captain Singh and other office-bearers were also present at the press conference.
