Rashmi Bindra blends hand-painted art, contemporary fashion and sustainability in Taraash’s latest Summer 26 collection, with dreams of taking the brand to Paris.
Chandigarh, August 19
Fashion designer Rashmi Bindra, also the founder of Taraash, is set to showcase her latest collection, ‘Summer 26’, at the Royal Fables exhibition at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, on August 19. In an exclusive telephonic interaction with The North News, Bindra opened up about her creative journey, design philosophy, inspiration and future plans for the brand.
Speaking about ‘Summer 26’, Bindra said the collection celebrates the colours and spirit of summer through hand-painted creations, lehengas, organza sarees and tissue fabrics. Intricate embellishments add to the collection’s appeal, while the overall palette remains subtle, soothing and easy on the eyes.
The collection features soft and sophisticated tones such as burnt oranges, onion pinks and olives, which Bindra describes as the colours of the season. This time, she has also experimented with purple, along with striking combinations of maroon and peach, bringing freshness and individuality to the collection.
A painter for nearly four decades, Bindra has always been deeply connected to art. She was also involved in organizing events, but her daughter encouraged her to turn her artistic talent into a fashion brand.
According to Bindra, the idea was to bring her paintings to the world in a contemporary format by blending art with modern design. Thus, Taraash was born three years ago. Her daughter has since taken charge of marketing and serves as the brand’s director and key decision-maker.
Describing Taraash’s design aesthetic, Bindra said the brand focuses on lightweight creations designed with the younger generation in mind, ensuring that wearers feel comfortable and confident. Sustainability remains another key focus. She highlighted the timeless appeal of heirloom pieces, noting that some sarees from her personal collection are 30–40 years old and can still be worn today.
The brand aims to create pieces that transcend generations, allowing both mothers and daughters to wear and cherish them. This emphasis on longevity, versatility, and sustainability form an integral part of Taraash’s identity.
What sets Taraash apart from other fashion labels, according to Bindra, is the individuality of every creation. She hand-paints each piece, ensuring no two are exactly alike. Every outfit therefore becomes a one-of-a-kind expression of art, giving the wearer the distinction of owning something truly unique.
Looking ahead, Bindra has ambitious plans for Taraash, she revealed that she hopes to take the brand to Paris, where she envisions a new direction and greater possibilities. With bigger plans already taking shape, Taraash appears ready to take its distinctive blend of art, fashion, and sustainability to a global audience.
