Chandigarh, April 29
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said that he will meet President Droupadi Murmu on May 5 over the defection of seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha members to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking to reporters , Mann said the President had given him an appointment at 12 pm. He said he would raise concerns linked to the merger of the seven MPs with the BJP.
Mann had earlier sought time to meet the President along with AAP legislators, demanding the “recall” of Punjab’s Rajya Sabha members who changed sides. The defections have triggered a political row in Punjab, with the AAP leadership accusing the BJP of weakening opposition parties.
