Two schools in Jalandhar, APJ School and Army Public School, have received bomb threats through emails, prompting school authorities to alert the police. However, neither institution has declared a holiday following the threats.
According to information received, threatening emails were sent to the official email addresses of the schools. The messages reportedly contained references to Punjab and Khalistan-related slogans and threatened explosions using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
One email received by Army Public School was reportedly sent at 8.55 am. It also mentioned the Congress rally scheduled to be held in Sangrur on November 4, featuring party leader Rahul Gandhi.
The threatening messages also reportedly referred to protecting children in the schools. The contents of the emails have raised security concerns, particularly ahead of Diwali.
School authorities have informed the police about the threatening messages. According to a source at APJ School, information about the threat email was received by the staff in the morning, following which the police were informed.
No school closure or holiday has been announced so far. The schools have continued to function, according to the information available.
Meanwhile, the threatening emails have also reportedly drawn attention to earlier incidents involving schools in Jalandhar. According to the information provided, APJ School and several other schools in the city have received more than five similar bomb threats in the past.
The source material also refers to previous threatening emails being attributed to Khalistan-related organisations. However, the identity of the sender of the latest emails has not been established in the information available.
The police have been informed, and the matter has raised concerns over the security of educational institutions in the city.
