Mohali, May 22

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday  released its manifesto and charge sheet for Mohali, highlighting issues ranging from lack of a proper bus stand and rising crime to traffic congestion, corruption, flooding and waste management.

Addressing the media, BJP Mohali District president Sanjeev Vashisht, said that  alleged that despite promises made by the ruling government in 2022 to transform Mohali into a city like Singapore, the city continues to suffer from poor civic infrastructure and administrative failures. He said that  that even though Mohali has witnessed a population increase of nearly 25–30 percent, development and urban planning have failed to keep pace. He  specifically raised the issue of Mohali lacking a proper bus stand despite being one of Punjab’s major urban centres. Party leaders said the absence of an organised public transport system has worsened traffic congestion and caused inconvenience for daily commuters.

The manifesto also highlighted concerns over deteriorating law and order, lack of CCTV surveillance, increasing drug abuse, traffic jams, stray cattle and street dogs, poor greenery maintenance and women’s safety issues, particularly in areas such as Phase 4, Aero City and 3B2.

As part of its “Sankalp Patra,” Sanjeev Vashisht promised to release a white paper within six months on alleged corruption and financial irregularities in the Municipal Corporation during previous Congress and AAP administrations. He  said an independent audit committee would be formed to ensure transparency and enforce zero tolerance against corruption.

To improve security, he said that the party promised an AI-based surveillance network with high-resolution CCTV cameras across roads, markets, religious places and public spaces. According to the party, the initiative would strengthen law and order, improve women’s safety, enhance security around gurdwaras and temples and help prevent criminal activities.

He  also announced plans for a smart parking network with app-based parking systems and mini multi-level parking hubs aimed at reducing congestion and improving mobility in the city.

On sanitation and waste management, the BJP proposed replacing open garbage dumping sites with enclosed Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) equipped with mechanised segregation and recycling systems. It also promised Bio-CNG units in every block to convert wet waste into clean fuel for municipal garbage trucks.

Highlighting recurring flooding during the monsoon season, particularly in areas such as Phase 11, Phase 5 and 3B2, the BJP promised to make Mohali flood-free through upgraded stormwater drainage systems, automated sensor-based pumping stations, pre-monsoon desilting and smart rainwater harvesting grids.

The manifesto further promised the development of green spaces into community recreation zones featuring pet parks, pickleball and padel tennis courts, yoga gazebos and fitness spaces.

The BJP also pledged to regulate Sunday Farmers’ Markets, launch app-based Mohali shuttle services and streamline the PG and tenant system to improve safety and curb the growing narcotics problem.

Additionally, the party promised clean drinking water, improved sanitation and better sewage systems in villages such as Mattaur, Mauli Baidwan, Balongi and Sohana. BJP leaders said special measures would also be taken to prevent the spread of dengue and malaria in these areas.

Appealing to voters ahead of the civic elections, BJP leaders said the manifesto presents a clear roadmap and vision for Mohali’s future development.
