Patiala, August 8
The health department has seized nearly one quintal of suspected fake desi ghee allegedly brought from Haryana during an inspection at a private shop in Patiala’s grain market area.
District Health Officer Dr Gurpreet Kaur on Saturday said that the department was conducting a continuous campaign to protect public health and safety. Acting on confidential information, officials collected samples of the suspected ghee and seized the entire stock.
The samples collected from the spot have been sent to a laboratory in Kharar for testing, she said.
Dr Kaur said the department was also investigating which shops had been supplied the suspected ghee. If the product is found to be fake or not in accordance with prescribed standards, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible under the Food Safety Act.
