New Delhi, April 23
The Delhi Police on Wednesday apprehended the accused in the rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service officer, in southeast Delhi, officials said.
A senior police officer confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody and said further details will be shared as the investigation progresses. The incident occurred at the victim’s residence in the Kailash Hills area, where the accused, a former househelp, is alleged to have carried out the crime earlier in the day.
Police said the victim was found dead in a room of her house by family members after they returned from the gym. Preliminary investigation suggests that she was sexually assaulted and later strangled using a mobile phone charger cable. The woman was preparing for the Union Public Service Commission examination, officials added.
Investigators also suspect that the accused may have been involved in another sexual assault reported earlier the same day in Rajasthan’s Alwar. Police are examining possible links between the two incidents. Authorities said further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and collect evidence related to the case.
