London, July 14
India scripted a memorable 270 run victory over England in the first ever Women’s Test at Lord’s on Monday, producing a dominant all round display to register one of their most significant wins in the longest format. Chasing a daunting target of 457, England were bowled out for 186 on the fourth morning despite a determined half century from Sophie Ecclestone.
Resuming the day needing four wickets, India wrapped up the contest in the morning session with disciplined bowling. Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma shared the remaining wickets after England offered brief resistance through Ecclestone and Amy Jones.
The foundation of India’s victory was laid by Smriti Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia, whose centuries helped the visitors post a commanding total and set England an imposing fourth innings target. Kranti Gaud emerged as the standout performer with the ball, claiming a five wicket haul and earning a place on the Lord’s Honors Board. Sayali Satghare also impressed with the new ball, while Rana maintained consistent pressure with her off spin.
The comprehensive win strengthened India’s record against England in Women’s Test cricket, giving them their fourth victory over the hosts in the format. The triumph also marked a historic moment at Lord’s, which staged its first Women’s Test, as India delivered a clinical performance with both bat and ball to seal a famous overseas victory.
