Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday reviewed the progress of tourism and heritage infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 62 crore across the state. The projects are aimed at promoting tourism, preserving Punjab’s cultural heritage, improving visitor facilities and creating employment opportunities.
Chairing a review meeting with senior officials, Sond directed the executing agencies to complete all projects within the prescribed timelines while maintaining high quality standards. He instructed officials to closely monitor progress, remove bottlenecks and ensure timely completion of the works. Among the major projects reviewed was the Rs 11-crore heritage welcome gate at the entrance to Punjab, being developed as a landmark gateway to the state. The minister also assessed the Rs 8.30-crore Malout Craft Corridor project in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, which aims to promote traditional crafts and support local artisans.
Sond also reviewed the Rs 14.30 crore expansion of the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Museum, along with the construction of an auditorium and a memorial gate at the entrance of Sunam town in Sangrur district. The minister further examined the Rs 9 crore heritage street development and beautification project at Gurdwara Tutti Gandi Sahib in Sri Muktsar Sahib. He also reviewed the Rs 20 crore ecotourism project at Kanjli Wetlands in Kapurthala district, which includes the operation, maintenance and management of the facility for five years.
Sond said these initiatives are expected to strengthen Punjab’s tourism infrastructure, preserve the state’s cultural and historical heritage, improve visitor experience and generate employment opportunities. He directed officials to ensure that all projects are completed on schedule to further boost tourism across Punjab.
