Chandigarh, September 25
Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Wednesday announced that Himachal Pradesh will adopt a policy requiring street vendors to display their names and IDs to ensure the sale of hygienic food, similar to a policy in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to media in Shimla, the Minister explained that the decision was made after public concerns were discussed in a meeting with the Urban Development Department and the municipal corporation.
This move follows the formation of a seven-member committee, led by Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, to develop a street vendors policy. The committee was established by Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Pathania in response to demands stemming from the Sanjauli illegal construction case, where protestors called for the identification of outside vendors.
