Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has resigned from his post, paving the way for newly-inducted minister Sanjeev Arora to assume the Industry and NRI portfolios, according to senior government sources.

Dhaliwal hinted at his resignation in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, sharing photos with a Union Minister and writing, “My efforts for the welfare of Punjab’s people will continue.” The post appeared online just about an hour. The Industry Department was previously held by Tarunpreet Singh Sond, who will continue to oversee the Rural Development, Labour, and Tourism portfolios.

The development comes as Sanjeev Arora, the Aam Aadmi Party’s MLA from Ludhiana West, was sworn in as a cabinet minister at Raj Bhavan earlier in the day. Arora, an industrialist-turned-politician and former Rajya Sabha MP, is widely expected to be allocated the departments of Industry and NRI Affairs — both of which are considered key portfolios in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration. An official announcement on portfolio distribution is yet to be made.
