Janet Jobson, CEO of the Desmond Tutu Legacy Foundation, met the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in McLeod Ganj on Wednesday, describing the meeting as a deeply emotional and respectful moment.
Jobson said the meeting was especially significant during the “Year of Compassion,” adding that the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu have long shared and promoted the message of compassion, justice, and universal humanity.
She highlighted the enduring friendship between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, calling it an inspiration for the world. She noted that their collaboration, including the book The Book of Joy, continues to spread the message of hope and happiness even in difficult circumstances.
During her interaction with the Dalai Lama, Jobson expressed gratitude for their shared values and said that her organization continues to work to promote compassion and the idea of shared humanity globally.
Addressing the Tibetan community, she said that people across the world must recognize their common humanity. She also said South Africa’s history of injustice and oppression makes it stand in solidarity with the Tibetan people in their pursuit of freedom, justice, and compassion.
