Congress MP Harish Chandra Meena questioned the Election Commission’s impartiality and demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, alleging that around 13 crore votes had been deleted.

Speaking at a press conference in Dharamshala during Congress’s ‘Save Vote, Save Country’ campaign, Meena cited a newspaper report for the stated figure. He alleged that names had been removed from electoral rolls based on political affiliation, caste and religion. These allegations were not independently established in the supplied material.

Meena said every citizen had an equal right to vote and argued that any action affecting that right required scrutiny. He objected to the appointment process for election commissioners, particularly the exclusion of the Chief Justice of India.

On electoral transparency, Meena referred to allegations concerning Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections, Delhi University Students’ Union elections and a power outage during vote counting in the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. He said transparent procedures were essential to democracy.

Meena criticised the Centre over promises to double farmers’ income, provide two crore jobs annually and deposit Rs 15 lakh in every bank account. He alleged the promises had not been fulfilled and accused the government of promoting religious and caste-based politics to divert attention from public issues.

Regarding Himachal Pradesh, Meena alleged the state had been neglected in infrastructure and national highway development. He referred to the Kalka-Shimla railway line and said the state had not benefited from new projects. He also criticised the renaming of Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Meena questioned law enforcement in relation to Lawrence Bishnoi, asking how his network could continue operating while he was in jail. He questioned the role of the agencies.

He said the campaign aimed to make people aware of their constitutional rights and urged citizens to recognise their vote’s value and remain alert to protect democratic processes.
